The first model car from Geely’s newly-born Lynk & Co brand has just been unveiled in the form of the 01 compact SUV. It is supposedly the most connected car to date. The centerpiece is just an open software platform (built with help from Microsoft and Alibaba) that lets developers sink their teeth in — it even has the first dedicated app store for cars, according to the company. Lynk & Co does not provide examples, but it is easy to see a streaming music service offering an app just for your 01, and custom navigation apps that go beyond the usual in-car GPS.
Lynk & Co 01 Design:
From a design standpoint, the new Lynk & Co 01 has its own personality, along with the front end, for example, boasting a high, vertical fascia with a narrow grille and a small headlights popping out of the arches and hood. At the rear there’s a prominent Lynk & Co badge, dual tailpipes, rooftop spoiler and oddly-shaped taillights.
In the cabin, we should find 10.1 inches of the touchscreen display in which system is connected to brand’s cloud to empower the sharing feature of the car. Most noteworthy, the car will be equipped with standard features as well like Android Auto and Apple Car Play to MirrorLink. Safety features from the Forward Collision Warning to Lane Departure Warning will be available as well.
Lynk & Co 01 Features:
While it has been confirmed that this 01 will feature the same modular architecture as the upcoming XC40, no engine details have been announced yet. However, this model is expected to receive a selection of 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 1.5-liter three-cylinder engines from Volvo and in future, as a plug-in hybrid too. Offered alongside the engines will be 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch automatic.
Lynk & Co 01 Price:
Pricing isn’t known at this point, but the 01 car will be produced in China. It’s scheduled to be revealed and launched in China in 2017. Launching in North America and Europe will follow. Lynk & Co confirms that they are ready to show more details very soon.
